CAPRARA FIRST TWO-TIME MOD WINNER AT THUNDER
ALLEY
EVANS MILLS, NY.....It took Frankie Caprara six races to find Victory
Lane for the first time in 2005 at Caprara's Thunder Alley Speedpark.
Race seven of the season for the DIRT Modifieds was a lucky one for
him as he became the first two-time winner of the season at the 1/3
mile oval in Friday night's 30-lap DIRT Modified feature.
Caprara's car sustained some right side sheet metal damage in an early
race altercation that saw leader Tim O'Brien lose the handle in turn
two, collecting Billy Dunn, Joe August Jr., and Mike Adderley.
Undaunted, Caprara charged into the runnerup spot and chased leader
Ryan Bartlett until he used the outside lane to make the winning move
on lap 11. John Ramsey also made it around Bartlett to take
second, and closed in on Caprara, but could not find a way by, having
to settle for second place. Following Bartlett in third were
Mike Prentice and Adderley.
The 20-lap Sportsman race began with Jim Kite and Jason Potter running
side by side for the lead, but Matt Butler and Jack Meeks made their
way past and spent the remainder of the race fighting for the lead.
Butler poked his nose out in front, only to have Meeks slide past.
The two continued to battle until Meeks was able to pull out a few car
lengths over the final five laps to collect the win. Butler took
second, followed by Kite, Roy Bresnahan, and Potter.
The 12-lap Street Stock feature event was a wire to wire win for Dave
Mannise, but he had Dana Aikens and Dave Pope hot on his heels the
entire distance. Mannise's win was his first of the year at
Thunder Alley, with Aikens and Pope followed by Keith Doxtater and
Zeke McKeown.
In Thundercar action, Jake McConnell switched cars with teammate Jim
Quinn and outdueled Mike Trapp and multi time feature winner Josh Vern
to collect the checkered flag in the 4 Cylinder Domestic class.
Jiggs Jones ran smooth to notch the 4 Cylinder Foreign win over Mike
Parker and Jack Jones. James Hall outran Rush Walts for the 6
Cylinder win, with Kevin Smith outdistancing Brian Palmer for the 8
Cylinder win, and Kevin Bice got the best of a three way battle with
Rush Walts and Mike Durham to collect the win in the Thundertrucks.
Next Friday night will be Bub Durham Memorial Night, with a full
program for DIRT Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Thundercars, and
Trucks. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
